My journey towards a proactive healthy lifestyle began when I retired from the medical industry in 2001. I specialized in pharmaceutical and medical devices for the serious chronic pain sufferers. I chose to walk away in 2001. Deep down I believed an organic lifestyle was far superior from what this industry was offering.
My passion as a body-worker, equine massage therapist and human massage therapist involved pain management relief from muscle restrictions for both people and horses. The horses were easy! As long as I started my touch at the poll, where the head met the atlas (or C1), restrictions in a horse’s neck were quick to release. You see, horses live in the moment and don’t overthink their pain. People on the other hand, overthink every nuance of pain and stiffness. Pain and tension in their neck, shoulders, back, hips and down to their feet. More than likely one leg is shorter than the other. This is more common than you would think!
Did you know that the average career of a massage therapist lasts only five years? The pain WILL set in. It’s only a matter of time. I suffered ever-increasing pain in my neck, shoulders, elbows and hands. No longer was I able to ignore the agony. I thought my 17-year massage therapy career was over this past year!
Then I was introduced to Michael Hane. He is a well-known body worker, specializing in this effective yet unique technique developed in Switzerland and now commonly offered in the UK, Australia and Europe. In other countries this technique is referred to as “Atlas Profilax” In early 2016 I received two life-changing bodywork sessions and I was granted a new lease on life. Since then my spinal pain subsided, my neck muscles relaxed, my posture straightened and I have become healthier: physically, emotionally and spiritually. After much soul searching I thought “I have to learn this technique for my clients!”
